Object Details

Description
Vase, baluster type, sometimes called "yen-yen" vase, swelling body, long neck with trumpet mouth, flared slightly at base which rolls neatly to a wedge-shaped, unglazed foot-rim.
Clay: fine white Jingdezhen porcelain.
Glaze: transparent, glossy, some pin-holes especially on glazed base.
Decoration: painted in vivid underglaze cobalt blue, line and wash. Neck and body have similar design of pine needles, rocks and plants painted in blue on white ground and a prunus tree reserved in white and in slight relief against irregular areas of blue wash with feathery edges. Details are drawn in blue. Four blue lines separate neck and body areas; double lines under lip and at base. This design is also seen with magnolia subject.
Although there is no mark, it can be assigned to the Kangxi period.
Condition: excellent.
