STRINGED INSTRUMENT WITH FOUR TOP STRINGS AND THREE SIDE STRINGS. LONG, DEEP NECK ENDING IN CARVED DRAGON(?) HEAD. FLAT TOPPED, HEMISPHERICAL BODY. OF LIGHT TAN VARNISHED WOOD. FIVE PEGS ON ONE SIDE OF NECK, TWO ON OTHER SIDE. TOP SIDE OF NECK IS PAINTED BLACK AND GOLD WITH GOLD CROSS PIECES. DECORATED WITH IVORY INLAY ON SIDES OF NECK AND UPPER EDGE AND TOP OF BODY, ALL OF WHICH BEARS LIGHT INCISED FLORAL PATTERNS COLORED IN RED, BLUE, AND GREEN INK. HAS ADDITIONAL GOURD SOUND BOX PAINTED WITH DESIGN OF FLOWERS AND DEER IN GREEN, WHITE, RED, YELLOW AND GOLD. WAS MISNUMBERED AS 399592 (A DIFFERENT OBJECT WHICH IS ALSO PART OF ACC. 233799). NUMBER CHANGED TO 399532B BECAUSE OF CLOSE RESEMBLANCE TO 399532A, AND IDENTIFYING LABEL ATTACHED TO NECK OF BOTH INSTRUMENTS READING "T.1270 TANJORE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS CO-OP PRODUCTION & SALE SOCIETY LTD., SOUTH MAIN STREET, TANJORE".
